The Hag's Tale

This is my inspiration for The Hag's Tale, a short story in verse, featured in The Legend Of Heliodor: Tales From The Realm which is currently an Amazon bestseller top 10 listing in its category.

The Witches of (Guilsborough) Northamptonshire, England, who one night rode on the back of a pig to visit a witch in a neighbouring village.

The tale goes that there was an elderly witch called Mother Roades, who lived just outside the neighbouring village of Ravensthorpe. Before she could be arrested and tried for her crimes of sorcery, she died. Her final words told of her friends riding to see her, but that it did not matter because they would meet again in some other place before the month was out.

Her friends were thus apprehended riding on the back of a sow between Guilsborough and Ravensthorpe and were taken into custody and hanged, thus they were all reunited in death.

BOOK TEASER The Crystal Spirits

Spellbinding fairy tale fantasy of Fire-Tongue dragons and powerful crystals in a magical world on Amazon Kindle

The Legend Of Heliodor: The Crystal Spirits by Clive Culverhouse

In the distance, watching over the small house stood two mysterious figures darkened in the wintery, night shadows. Their eyes glistened as they were caught by the light of the full moon. The smaller man said “He will arrive tonight.”

The two men secretly watched under the cloak of the night.

Celestine stepped outside, slightly annoyed that his best friend had spent all that time persuading him to go into the house only to insist that he should now come outside again.

“What is so important that you take me away from my …” Celestine stopped, eyes widening, mouth dropping.

The night sky was alight with a sensational multitude of glistening colours.

“That’s not all,” said Euclase in awe. He pulled out a small, tatty fabric bag from his dull coloured jacket pocket and opened it to reveal a very brightly shining set of crystals, dazzling their eyes. Straight away Celestine nervously fumbled in his own jacket pocket and fetched out his own crystals that had also started shining strongly. And then he noticed all the houses around his house were glowing wildly from the crystals and gemstones within. An amazing rainbow of halos seemed to float freely from all the houses in Heliodor.

“What is happening?” Celestine asked his friend.

“Never look a Fire-Tongue directly in the eye!” Cinnabar boomed as his softened voice erupted with a force that made all the youngsters jump as they remained seated in their semi-circular huddle on the cold wooden floor. “They will hypnotize you, they will fool you into a false sense of security, and they will put you under the dragon’s spell so that he owns you and controls your every move. And then when you least expect it,” Cinnabar let out a loud roar and with clawed hands, he pretended to grab at the children as they jumped once more in fright, “he eats you and owns your soul for all eternity.”

“Quick, around here,”

Pacing up and down, waving his arms in despair. His face looked stressed and angry.

The two then bobbed down as Euclase approached the window. They held their breath, not daring to murmur a word as they saw Euclase’s hand on the window sill; his fingers dangling out almost touching Kyan’s scruffy hair. Euclase squeezed down on the window sill and they could see his knuckles turn white. Then the hand disappeared. They heard Euclase stomp away from the window. The two boys breathed at last.

“Why haven’t you told him yet?” He looked up intently at Galena.

“I can’t tell him yet, it’s not the right time. He can’t know just yet, he just can’t.” Galena defended herself and fiddled with her apron strings in front of her.

“He needs to know.” Euclase replied abruptly, almost shouting.

Jade finally went over to Galena and comforted her,   “Euclase, leave her alone now, it’s not up to us.”

…. and soon after, Kyan was told a shocking secret; one that would change his life forever and one that would throw him head first into terrifying danger and threaten the lives not just of his family and friends but of all in the land…

Read The Legend Of Heliodor: The Crystal Spirits to find out just how extraordinary the legend really is and follow Kyan as he must save his people from destruction.

Tarot, Crystals and Divination

Tarot cards and Divination feature in The Legend Of Heliodor: The Crystal Spirits drawn from my interest in Wicca, the occult, Alchemy, witchcraft and the supernatural.

Aegirine is a character in the book who is an Alchemist and Wizard. He appears later in the story but his message and insight is devestating and his seer's ability is frighteningly accurate. What he has to say is of huge importance...

His Tarot card set contains the Dark Arcana and Light Arcana

The Light Arcana contains the suits of Celestial, Mineral, Goblet and Staff

Aegirine's Tarot card set was inspired by my own Scapini Tarot because of the beautiful and intricate pictorial messages, stacked with hidden meaning and secret knowledge.

His divination comes from Tarot, Chance Dice and crystals
